THE OLSON PINGREY QUARTET

The Olson Pingrey Quartet is a project that I co-lead with trombonist Randy Pingrey.  We perform original compositions by Mr. Pingrey and myself arranged for bari sax, trombone, bass, and drums.  Inspired by the great Mulligan/Brookmeyer quartet we mix the old with the new.  We play freely but also keep up the tradition of  hard-bop and bebop as well as mixing in more modern compositions.  The unique sound of the bari and trombone as well as the lack of a chordal instrument gives OPQ something a little different.

We’re happy to announce the release of our first album called “Low Contrast.”  To check out or purchase this recording please visit:

John Edwin Mason wrote a nice review of the album which you can check out on his website here.

Here are some pictures from the “Low Contrast” recording session taken by Ginny Chilton.  Scroll down for live recordings from past OPQ performances.
